“And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him two.” This bit of scripture is from The Sermon on the Mount in the gospel of Matthew – 5:41. The Gospel of Matthew is generally regarded as a “how to” for the early Christian Church. In addition to the Sermon on the Mount this gospel also contains the Beatitudes, the Golden Rule as we now call it, and the Lord’s Prayer. I would like to rename our Second Sunday Outreach effort “Walk the Second Mile Sunday” as we continue to support local social service agencies in this unprecedented time of need. The person who represents each agency will give a brief introduction and summary of the agency’s needs, and encourage each of us to “Walk the Second Mile.”
The Golden Shopping Cart will be moved into the sanctuary on the last Sunday of the month to remind us of our continued collection of food and toiletries on the first Sunday of the month. We will continue to distribute these items to EFAA and Sr. Carmen. You may of course bring food items and toiletries at any time. When you are shopping and see a By One Get One offer perhaps the Get One item could be donated to the Golden Shopping Cart. Both of these agencies are very grateful for our continued support of their food bank operations.
Thanks to Toni Brennand who has generously agreed to sell Habitat for Humanity grocery certificates after the 10:30 service. Please visit Toni in the Narthex to purchase these certificates. They make great gifts also. A percentage of the sale price is donated to the Flat Irons Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. You will be hearing more about their Apostle’s Program, and a build in Boulder towards the end of February.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity to the local agencies providing basic needs to so many in our community who need someone to walk the second mile with them.
