At the Annual Meeting on January 24, I posed the question, “What does it mean to be a member of St. Ambrose?”, and suggested that we spend a good portion of the coming year talking about that together, so that we can come to an agreement on what membership at St. Ambrose looks like. A membership covenant could then be signed by all who want to be members of St. Ambrose, as a sign of our decision to make a full commitment to this community of faith.
Everyone who walks through the doors of St. Ambrose is welcome to worship God with us and to join in the various fellowship, learning, and transformation opportunities which we offer. That will not change. What is changing is my desire to clarify what it means to be a member of St. Ambrose. With commitment come benefits and responsibilities. With commitment comes energy! And we all, by the time we clarify this, should be able to see clearly the choice that is before us, and whether we want to commit to becoming a member of St. Ambrose, or not.
I presented a draft membership covenant at the Annual Meeting, as a beginning place for our discussions. We talked at the meeting about having some forums this year, so that we can enter into a mutual dialog and discussion about membership. The first forum on membership will be Sunday, February 28, from 9:30 until 10:20 am in Friendship Hall. I look forward to hearing your input and seeing where our discussions will take us. I hope you will join me on February 28
