Spring has sprung! Plowing and planting has started in the garden. This year the garden has been divided into sections: spring/winter crops (lettuce, peas, radishes, onions, garlic and potatoes), summer crops (tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and more), and squash. The Sunday school will have a section to play with as well.
Something new this year is a community plot section! A small section has been set aside for St.Ambrosians to have individual plots to plant and nurture. If you are interested in having a small plot or perhaps sharing a plot with a friend, please contact Linda or Holly. A children’s pumpkin patch is also planned for this summer.
The garden committee is small and looking for helpers! We will have a signup sheet soon for volunteers to help with watering and weeding. In addition the fruit trees also need to be watered. The committee welcomes any person or family that feels like “playing in the dirt” to stop by at your convenience and pull weeds or spread composted materials so our veggies grow tasty and big, we keep some small tools by the compost bins under the pine trees but you will need to bring your own gloves. Future work parties will be announced in the Bee Hive so stay tuned. This summer we will be taking some produce to Sr. Carmen, and EFAA, as well as sharing with the parish so please join us in making this a big harvest year to share with our sisters and brothers in our community!
Respectfully,
Linda Vosburgh & Holly McElhaney
