September is a transitional month. For many of us it is the start of school and the end of summer vacation. Soon lawn mowing will end, watering will cease, and gardens will be harvested and prepared for winter. The air conditioning season will end and the heating season will begin. Will it snow in September this year?

My daughter, Rebekah drove to Iowa City in August for her junior year at the University of Iowa. This is the first time she drove herself to college and it was big deal for me to watch her drive off all by herself. College is harder for parents because the child is away from home, but every grade, beginning in kindergarten, is an important transition for parent and child. It is wonderful to see kids grow up and not “need” their parents, but even more wonderful that they still want to be close to family.

At the August vestry meeting, Millie Williams was welcomed as our new treasurer and Kris Bertness was thanked for serving as treasurer for the first half of 2010. Paul Austin and Matt Gauch volunteered to co-lead organizing the St. Ambrose booth at the Louisville Labor Day Festival . The St. Ambrose booth will be staffed by parishioners and clergy to give away water and meet and greet people who come to the festival. St. Ambrose will have a float in the Labor Day Parade and the choir and other parishioners will sing, ride, march and give out candy on the parade. On Saturday September 18th the vestry will meet for a one-day retreat to plan for 2011.
