Community Garden

The green movement has come to Saint Ambrose. We feel that it is our responsibility as Christians to pay attention to environmental concerns.  The vestry (governing board) has made going green a priority for the church which began with the vision of growing vegetables at church. We tend to our 15 fruit trees (plums, pears, peaches, cherries, nectarines and apples) and practice composting. Members of our congregation are encouraged to compost at home and bring their bins with them to church on Sunday to add to the community compost bin. On the west side of the property is a community garden, where we encourage members as well as visitors to join us in gardening.  All are welcome to come and garden and to harvest vegetables (and eventually fruit) as you need them. The garden is all organic.

St. Ambrose is the patron Saint of bees and beekeepers so we thought it was fitting to begin a bee ministry complete with a beehive. Our bee ministry is always interested in including those interested in helping us care for our bees.
Our future plans involve a “
Pollinators of Peace” Garden with flowering plants and the names of peacemakers through out the world and time.  These names remind us of what God is calling us to do and be in the world.
